About Me

Educator. Historian. Writer.

Ryan completed his bachelor’s degree in European Studies and Politics at Brigham Young University. During the course of his undergraduate studies, he became interested in questions about historical modes of identity. After completing his undergraduate, Ryan moved to England to attend St Edmund’s College, Cambridge for an MPhil in Modern British History about the Oxford Movement, masculinity, and Victorian elite education. He then went on to complete an MSt in Ecclesiastical History and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Oriel College, Oxford. He is currently working towards a PhD in History at the University of Cambridge whilst teaching in secondary school.

His current research interests include Victorian male friendship and intimacies, the Oxford Movement, and the long eighteenth-century Grand Tour.

Ryan is an accomplished educator and mentor. His keen interest in story-telling makes history come alive in the classroom setting. Ryan has experience teaching at both the university and secondary school level; having supervised undergraduate historians at the University of Cambridge and taught history and politics at Cokethorpe School and at the Cathedral School, Llandaff. In the Autumn Term of 2023, Ryan will join Harrow School in London.
